My time in Malaysia.

Malaysia is the second country out of the 6 countries on our world race route. Malaysia was a lot of fun for many reasons. One of them being, the whole squad (all 14 of us) were together. Unlike Thailand and future countries, where we are separated into teams. We were all together for ministry and living together. The Christian fellowship I got to enjoy has set a standard for me moving forward. It was full of bible studies, group prayer, even worship that went on all night. We would share almost all our meals together and played a lot of games. We even got to spend Easter together which was a blessing.

During Easter week, some friends and I dove into what happened on each day leading up to good Friday. We read in each gospel what happened and wrote it all down on a big white board to share with everyone, what happened on those days. It was really fun to dive into the gospels with friends and talk about what the Lord showed us while reading. We then watched The Passion Of The Christ on Good Friday. I watch it every Good Friday. It paints the best picture of what Jesus went through on the cross for us. It always makes me grateful and contrite.

Then there was the ministry we got to be a part of. We were partnered with a church that did lots of house visits and shared the gospel with non-believers and did house church. We also were sent to other churches to give sermons and sing worship music. The other part of the church’s ministry was a school for refugee children from Myanmar. They couldn’t legally go to school so the church would take them in and teach them about math, english and science. When we were there we took over the teachings and got to love the kids there. The kids were all Muslim because Malaysia is a majority Muslim nation.

Every Friday at the center we stayed at, they held something called the Boys Brigade. It is their version of boy scouts. We shared bible stories and lessons with them. I got to share what 1st Corinthians 13 says about love and it really touched them all. They would also have breakfast for the older people of the church and the elders. I joined them every Friday. I made really good friends with all of them out there and got to try many different and delicious home made foods. One of my favorites were these curry filled samosas.

Malaysia was also a difficult country to be in. It felt very foreign and I missed home a lot there but the people in the ministry and my squadmates really encouraged me! Another reason it was difficult is because it is illegal to evangelize in Malaysia and also illegal to convert to Christianity as well. But all that to say, Malaysia was a lot of fun and I would love to go back one day. The ministry was wonderful and rewarding!

Blessings,

Michael Drago
